Since 1856, Star Prairie’s ice-cold spring water has provided and ideal natural habitat for commercial trout-raising. Fifteen hundred gallons per minute of flow at a steady rate and temperature provide open water and continuous growth and harvests year-round.
Schultz's chickens are free-range, certified organic and are never administered hormones or antibiotics. In fact, the family grows most of their crops, grinds their own feed, candles & grades their own eggs (the day they're laid, unlike some farms) and handles most of their deliveries.
Pastures A Plenty Farm is home to a hog farrow to finish operation as well as free range chickens and a seasonal cattle grazing business. Our pork is available at several Twin Cities food co-ops and also at local restaurants.
In the family since 1913, Garden Farme in Ramsey focuses on specialty market gardening and custom growing for restaurants and caterers. Farmer Bruce Bacon uses a hand tool system in lieu of tractors, resulting in quality, flavorful, beautiful produce.

The Lamb Shoppe is our farm retail store. You will find delicious healthy wholesome meat from our farm along with other delightful treasures. Our USDA inspected meat is naturally raised, free of growth hormones and antibiotics. It is not irradiated and no animal by-products are used. Our meat tastes as pure and natural as the land it was raised on.
We grow approximately 30 acres of certified organic produce that we market, along with Bison, Elk, Lamb, Honey, Maple Syrup and many other products from neighboring farms, at our on farm store and greenhouses; some of the finest farmers markets, restaurants and food co-ops in Minnesota and Wisconsin year around.

In 1939 when Arnold Kaehler was grinding wheat on a farm in Red Wing, Minnesota, the casing on his portable grinding mill broke. Some of the outer wheat layers sifted through by mistake. Mr. K. was curious and tasted the stray wheat. "A particularly fine flavor," he thought. He prided himself on the strength-building qualities of the wheat layers and soy grits in his breakfast foods.Sturdiwheat is still made in Red Wing. We're still using Mr. K.'s patented process and we're still selling Sturdiwheat pancake mix and cereal because of their great taste. Even though they're good for you.

In the mid-1980s, family farmers across America were in the fight of their lives. Prices had dropped below the cost of production. Family farmers were told they were inefficient and they had to either get big or get out. Deeply flawed national and international policies were the root cause of the crisis. A galvanizing effort to save the family farm helped spawn the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP). In 1986, IATP began documenting the underlying causes of America's rural crisis and proposing policies that would benefit farmers, consumers, rural communities and the environment.
Increasing numbers of Minnesotans recognize that a transition to a more sustainable society is needed if we are to leave a healthy natural environment, a prosperous economy and vibrant communities for future generations. Many individuals and organizations throughout the state are working toward sustainability in areas as diverse as agriculture, waste management, energy, manufacturing, retail, urban planning, economic development, policy, housing, forestry, education, land use and transportation. The goal of MnSCN and their website is to encourage networking, information exchange, and better access to assistance. This network consists of an even mix of over 3,000 individuals, non-profit organizations, businesses, local governments, educational institutions, and other organizations in Minnesota (and bordering areas) who are interested in moving toward sustainability.
